Split Red Lentils are bright orange in color and are disk shaped. It comes under the legume family. Split Red Lentils are used commonly in Indian Cuisine throughout India. They have short cooking time about 15 to 20 minutes and do not need to be pre-soaked. Red lentils are commonly used in a soup like preparation called dal. This is a soupy version made with spices and eaten with nan bread or rice. Split red lentils have a good amount of protein, fiber and are low in fat. These lentils have good amount of calcium, phosphorous, iron and Vitamin B. Split red lentils can be stored in the pantry for more than a year.
